In light of recent updates concerning the Coronavirus, COVID-19, your church leadership has prayerfully considered how we should make necessary adjustments to keep our people safe and to minimize health risks during these unprecedented circumstances. We truly believe that the cause of sharing the gospel and love of God with our world is worthy of our devotion and faithfulness. As people of faith, we do not turn, run, and hide when confronted with the risks of both sharing the gospel and caring for the needs of others. But at the same time, we do not wish to elevate the risks of spreading a deadly virus, especially when there is so much uncertainty about how many lives will be affected by the present national emergency.
Dr. Cox and Dr. Kent were both consulted and agree that this is the proper response for our church. I also received an email from the CEO of Baptist Health, encouraging us to make some necessary adjustments. Therefore, we desire to be a part of the solution and not add to the problems facing our health care professionals. In order to protect those most vulnerable to this virus, both in our church and in our community, and in cooperation with state health care officials, we have decided to cancel all church services and activities, effective this Sunday through Saturday, March 28.
We will cancel all regularly scheduled church activities through March 28, including small group gatherings and age-group activities. This includes the youth trip to Shocco, Children’s outings, and New Beginning activities and trips. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates on our church website, social media, and emails. Our church staff will keep regular office hours during this time, and will be here to assist you if needed.
This virus is not just a public health crisis, but is an opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus with our neighborhoods and the nations. Unlike any other time in recent history, we are being reminded of our own humanity with it’s weaknesses. Take the time to listen to those around you, pray for their needs, share the gospel, and invite them to join us in worship on March 29.
Our goal is to both honor God and care for our church family, and our community as well. Please join your staff in asking God to work all these things together for our good and His glory. Why not have a time of family worship in your home on Sunday morning. You might be amazed at how much it will mean to your whole family.
